The Interview |
Lawnscape was an American reality television series on the Piper TV network, in which former The Interview contestant and landscaper/contractor, Bryce Donaldson helps failing salons turn around in one week. The series premiered on September 3, 2008 and is produced by Porcelain Hedge Productions, a division of Busch Group.
In May 2011, Piper TV announced that the fourth season of the premise of the series would be expanded beyond just individual's homes to include Donaldson "taking over" various small businesses and family enterprises. Season 4 premiered on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, with the final episode of the season airing on April 25, 2012. Lawnscape was renewed for Season 5 in August 2012. Season 5 premiered on January 8, 2013. In June 2013, Piper TV cancelled the series after five seasons.
Format[edit | edit source]
Lawnscape begins with Bryce meeting the owner(s) of the home or business that he will renovate and landscape; in Seasons 1 through 3, these were exclusively struggling individuals in need, but in Season 4, more small business are featured (including a park, a frozen yogurt parlor, and a day care facility). During a discussion regarding the state of the workload, Bryce and the owner(s) set expectations for the upcoming work and timeframe for its completion; Bryce demands the keys to the home or business and the takeover begins. Bryce enters the home or business with the owner(s), informing his staff that he will take over and informs them of their jobs and duties for the upcoming project. He then requests a tour ("The Inspection"), usually finding it dirty, unsanitary, and unorganized. He calls a staff meeting for the following day, during which he gets their point of view for moving forward. After the staff meeting he brings in the tools and begins an initial cleaning or planning to determine where the major issues lie. By the end of the second day, he sits down with the owner and talks about what he thinks should be changed. The third day usually consists of Bryce's staff bonding with the owner(s) of the worksite and the beginning of the renovation. The renovation takes about 3 days. By the last day, "The Reveal" happens, where the Bryce unveils the finished product of the renovation and landscaping. By the end of the day, he gives his "Final Recommendations" to the owner(s), provides tools and products necessary to sustain the landscaping and gives the key back to the owner. After a few months, Bryce comes back to see how/if the worksite has changed.
