Sikh City Soul was an American reality television series that premiered on PiperTV on August 3, 2020 and concluded on May 3, 2023. It followed a group of young Sikh individuals navigating the pressures from their family and orthodox religion while living in the modern, secular world. Sikhism is a religion and philosophy practiced often by individuals of or descending from the Punjab region of India. It aired three seasons and focused on the personal and professional lives of several Sikh friends and family members residing in Sacramento, California.
Production[edit | edit source]
In February 2019, producers at Bay Breeze Productions began casting for a show, then titled American Indians, looking for individuals of Punjabi descent and, at the very least, loosely attached to the religion of Sikhism. Producers were intrigued with the idea after filming on another one of their productions, Wed to War, when military captain DeAnna Damascus filmed multiple scenes with her friends who practice Sikhism and learned of a large population in the Central Valley. Casting proved difficult as the orthodox religious aspects of the community led many to retreat from filming. In September 2019, production officially began with several different individuals testing for a full-time position.
Production continued through the new year with the finale commencing on February 1, 2020. On March 4, 2020, Piper TV released a short teaser for the series, officially changing its title to Sikh City Soul. Post-production and the subsequent release date were later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 22, 2020, Piper TV released the official trailer for the first season with the cast including Sanjit Chahal, Tavleen Cundari, Sukhwinder "Suki" Jasvir, Janilee Kapoor, Rajesh "Raj" Mann, Baani Randhawa, Karan Singh, and Ekam Virmani. Niko Bassi and Gillian Yost were also confirmed to appear in a recurring capacity. The series later premiered on August 3, 2020.
In February 2021, the series was renewed for a second season. The second season premiered on December 1, 2021 with the entire first season cast returning along with new cast members Cyrus Gupta and Luca Singh. Omar Chahal and Keya Radha also joined the series in a recurring capacity. In May 2022, the series was renewed for a third season. On June 3, 2022, Karan and Luca Singh announced their departures from the series. The third season premiered on January 25, 2023, including new cast member Raul Syed.
In May 2024, Piper TV officially cancelled the series after three seasons.
