Pre-Season Romantic Backgrounds[edit | edit source]

  • Adam & Kandice: The two met on All In, both as Challenge rookies. They instantly became close and developed a romance within their Beauty team. However, Adam quickly got called out by his team for being the only male rookie and he soon was sent home, while Kandice was able to make it to the final, only to finish in third place. The two tried to make a long distance relationship work, however, after he won The Rodeo, Adam partied very hard and neglected Kandice. On All In II, Kandice exacted her revenge by turning the Beauty team against Adam. After Adam lost the elimination to Miles, Kandice started cheering for losing Adam much to the disgust of Adam and several other cast members for poor sportsmanship.
  • Brendan & Grace: The two were a very prominent couple on The Dungeon. They flaunted their relationship to all of the cast while kissing and hooking up without caring who heard or saw it. Many of the cast, from both the Heroes and Villains teams, were sickened by their dalliance and felt that Brendan was playing favorites when it came to Grace. During every Villain team deliberation, Brendan vouched for Grace and pushed for her to stay out of the dungeon, insisting that she could handle the final. Many of the other female villains voted for Grace to go into the dungeon, but to no avail and they instead went in themselves. In the end, both Brendan and Grace bypassed the preliminary challenges and made it to the final. During the final, Grace struggled as she ran out of breath and could not keep up with her male teammates having to carry her for a majority of the final. Ultimately, this caused the villains to lose to the heroes and the entire team blamed Grace for the loss, including Brendan. At the reunion special, Brendan stated that he and Grace were over, and he made a huge mistake in ever keeping her around until the end.
  • Brian & Karen: On The Temple III, rookie Karen caught the eye of well-known Challenge player Brian. The two hooked up early on in the show, but it was short lived because Karen was sent home after the first female elimination. After the season, the two had a relationship outside of the house, and according to Karen, they were still together when Brian took part in Shipwrecked, where he hooked up with fellow cast member Aaryn Grimes and later after the show with Jade Avery. According to Brian, however, Karen was just a "friend with benefits" and they had no real relationship.
  • Buzz & Savannah: The two met on Battle of the Seasons were they began flirting from the beginning and then developed a showmance. Following the season, the two entered into a relationship which lasted for several years. Their relationship was very serious and the two considered both marriage and having a child. They both competed on World Tour where they dominated the season, controlling most of the challenges as well as the selection processes. When Buzz's former Fresh Meat partner, Brie Bryant, began getting too close to Buzz, Savannah decided to turn the house against her, leave her out of the selection process, and hopefully have her go home. Brie, in retaliation, picked Savannah to go against her in the elimination. The girls engaged in a heated shouting match in which Brie stated the Buzz had been unfaithful to Savannah in the past. Ultimately, Savannah sent Brie home in the elimination. At the reunion, Brie once again brought up the cheating rumors and this time revealed that she and Buzz had hooked up on Fresh Meat. When Buzz was confronted with the accusations, he shockingly revealed them to be true, leaving Savannah in tears. Buzz stated that he messed up and he wishes to have Savannah back, while Savannah stated that she still has so much love and care for Buzz, but does not think she can trust him again.
  • Cameron & Emily: The two met on Fresh Meat, where Cameron started flirting and making moves on Emily. Emily was apprehensive to start a showmance with a rookie, who also happened to be several years younger than her. However, Cameron's tactics worked and he and Emily started a showmance and hooked up several times during the season. In the final five, Emily, and her partner Carlito Serrano, went up against Cameron, and his partner Madison Wells, in the exile. Emily and Carlito were heavily favored and the rest of the cast thought Madison and Cameron would for sure go home. However, in a shocking upset Cameron and Madison prevailed, crushing Emily. At the reunion, the two revealed their relationship had not worked and the two had parted ways.
  • Carmine & Abby: The two met on The Temple III, where they barely interacted. Their relationship began on World Tour II, where Abby felt spoiled by a younger, hot guy giving her so much attention. The two engaged in many couple activities throughout their time on the season and offered comedic relief. After their time in house, Carmine and Abby continued a relationship until, according to Abby, Carmine began blowing her off to be with his friends and he then began sleeping around. Carmine said that Abby was nagging, overbearing, and a constant pain for him and he wanted nothing more to do for her. Abby stated that she was the one that broke things off with him and in order to save his ego, he said that she was a nag and a mood killer.
  • Chris & Lindi: The two were season sweethearts on The Real World: The Hamptons, and were the more mild, less volatile couple of the season compared to the love triangle that ensued from Darrius Villareal, Jared Maxwell and Asiah Morrison. The two pledged to wait at least until after the show to consummate the relationship, for which many of their roommates laughed at them. At the reunion, they stated that they were still together and Chris had moved to Long Beach to be closer to Lindi. However, Lindi said Chris was different (in a bad way) outside of the house and they parted ways.
  • David & Aaryn: The two met on World Tour II, where they began a showmance very early on. They soon were left in the minority alliance and fought to stay in the game. However, David began acting very arrogant and taunted several of the veteran players, which angered them. Aaryn tried to get David to stop fearing that her game would end as well, but to no avail. When David picked a fight with Aaryn's Real World cast mate Laura Cromwell, Laura retaliated by leaving David out of the selection process, which also left Aaryn out. In the end, they both went home and Aaryn blamed David for their elimination. Although, they continued a casual relationship outside of the house, it quickly soured because, according to Aaryn, David's ego was too big for her to handle.
  • Ed & Jade: The two engaged in a secret relationship on their inaugural challenge Fresh Meat. They tried to keep their relationship under the radar, fearing that a showmance between two teams would make them an obvious target. However, Emily Wheeler caught them making out behind the bushes and vowed to split them up. After Emily and Carlito Serrano won the fifth challenge, Emily enacted her plan by sending Jade, and her partner Mike Robbins, into the elimination, while the house voted in Ed, and his partner Jeszi Green. At the exile, Jeszi and Ed came out victorious, which caused Jade to break down in tears. After the show, the two hooked up a few times, but ultimately parted ways amicably. The two continued a teamwork relationship on both World Tour and The Temple III, and made the final together for the latter season.
  • Frankie & Karissa: On The Temple 2, Frankie had an obvious crush on Karissa and did everything in his power to get with her. Karissa, however, was repulsed by Frankie and wanted nothing to do with him. However, after a rookie team win and a drunken night, Karissa invited Frankie into her bed and the two hooked up. The next day, Karissa admitted that she barely remembered the incident and said it was the biggest mistake of her life. Later in the season, Karissa voted Frankie into the temple and he was sent home. At the reunion, Karissa continued to say she made a big mistake and never wanted to see Frankie again.
  • Hunter & Alyssa: The two met on World Tour, where they formed a mutual attraction for one another. After the season, the two entered into a serious relationship, with Hunter moving to Oregon to be near Alyssa. They both competed on The Temple III, with Hunter on the veterans team and Alyssa on the rookies. The veterans dominated the game winning challenge after challenge with several rookies going home, including Alyssa. After Alyssa's elimination, Hunter hooked up with rookie Annie Wolfe. At the reunion, Alyssa broke down in tears and said that she loved Hunter and he ripped her heart out.
  • Jared & Asiah: The two did not meet on television and actually met in New York City. Jared, a Real World alumni, encouraged his girlfriend to apply for the show, for which she got on. On The Real World: The Hamptons, Asiah was a fun, wild cast member and loved the party scene. She soon began getting close and intimate with fellow cast member Darrius Villareal. Jared got word of this relationship and crashed a party at the house. During this altercation, Jared accused Asiah of cheating and the two began breaking things in the house. Darrius tried to diffuse the situation only to have Jared punch him in the face. Jared was soon escorted out of the house by security, and Asiah stated that she was finished with Jared.
  • Jeremy & Caitlin: The two met on The Real World: Rome, where they hooked up all over the city. Following the season, the two began dating, but Caitlin learned that Jeremy had other girls. After realizing he was cheating on her, she broke things off and cut up all of his clothes. Jeremy stated that he never wanted to have a relationship with Caitlin and he only wanted a hook up. He said that she was only his "TV girlfriend" and he never had any real feelings for her.
  • Kevin & LeAnna: The two met on The Real World: Staten Island and instantly connected. They are considered the first couple in Real World history. Following their season, the two began dating and both moved to Miami to live together. When they both competed together on Battle of the Seasons, they revealed that they had broken up, but remained friends. Throughout the season, the Staten Island team was targeted by a majority of the other teams, with Kevin competing in three eliminations and LeAnna in four. They both saw how well they worked together in the challenges and eliminations, and repressed feelings began to spark again. The two ended up representing the Staten Island team in the final, where they placed in second place. In the end, however, nothing happened between them following the season.
  • Mike & Holly: The two met on The Dungeon II. Holly, along with Lily Evans and Lauren Fuller, were seen as the weakest heroes, but most of the team, including Mike, decided to keep them around and instead send in the strongest girls, Kandice Pierce and Rachel Hamilton, in order to keep a majority over the villains. Holly, however, was sent home at the final elimination of the season; while Mike went on to win. The two began a relationship outside of the challenge that lasted for several years. The two both competed on The Temple 2, where they both made the final on the veterans team, but ultimately lost the final challenge. Their relationship stayed strong until Mike revealed on World Tour II that the distance between them was putting too much strain on the relationship, and they called it quits.
  • Miles & Farrah: The two were roommates on The Real World: Maui and were friendly with one another, but nothing romantically occurred. They both competed on All In II, where they hooked up multiple times. Farrah stated that she needed on outlet to blow off steam from her constant feuding with the Beauty team girls and LeAnna Carson. At the reunion, Miles stated that they never entered into a relationship after the show and just remained friends. They competed together on World Tour, where they were picked off by the more experienced veterans early on.
  • Ryan & Jen: The two met on World Tour, where they developed a flirtmance, but nothing developed after the show. They were both on the veterans team for The Temple III where they continued to flirt. At the reunion, the two revealed they had developed a relationship and were trying to make the distance shorter. Their relationship was strained, however, when Jen was irritated that Ryan took her rivals’, Brian Snyder and Ed Slater, side following the two’s betrayal of her on Shipwrecked. Ultimately, they patched things up on World Tour II until Jen used her relationship with Ryan to get ahead and send home her competition, Gia Anderson. Following this incident, Ryan disowned Jen and vowed to send her home, ending their relationship.
  • Tom & Katie: The two were an unlikely couple on The Rodeo. They bonded over their outcast status amongst the rest of the challengers and developed a relationship. Following the season, they dated briefly before splitting. The competed together on The Temple 2 and they again bonded over the hatred that they received from the rest of their teammates. Although they seemed close, nothing materialized following the season between the two.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Challenge games[edit | edit source]

  • Head Over Heels: A platform is suspended 400 feet above the ocean. A series of five statues are dangling from the platform. The goal is for each female to lay backward and retrieve as many statues as possible and deposit the statues into their team bucket. Each male is holding a rope connected to their female partner's feet, which they must hold to keep their partner from falling. Each successive statue becomes more difficult for each female to reach, and a team is disqualified if the female partner falls off the plank, or a team drops a statue. The team to retrieve the most statues in the fastest time wins, while the last-place team is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Ed & Jade
  • Stages of Love: This challenge consists of a series of four tasks, each representing a stage in the cycle of love.
    • Dating: Each team has to race across a bamboo lane, place a card between each other's lips, and either "suck" or "blow" in order to advance the card around bamboo poles. If a team drops the card, they have to start from the beginning. The five last-place teams (out of seventeen) are eliminated from the challenge, while the last-place team at the first stage is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Engagement: One member of each team will stand on one side of a wall with their hands tied behind their back. The other member must then toss an "engagement ring" over the wall in an attempt to land the ring around their partner's neck. Once they land a ring around their partner's neck, the players will switch sides. The first seven teams to land a ring around both team member's necks advance.
    • Marriage: Each team member will have one of their legs tied to their partners, and they must make their way through a series of obstacles retrieving flags along the way. The first two teams to collect all six flags and race to the altar advance.
    • Divorce: Each player must throw an oversized dart at a picture of their partner. The first team to have both members hit all three pictures will win.
      • Winners: Ryan & Jen
  • Spinners: Teams must work together to cross a series of five wheels that spin as one steps on it. On each wheel, a team must grab a flag. If a player falls off of a wheel, they will be eliminated. The team with the most flags in the shortest amount of time wins, while the last-place team is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Carmine & Abby
  • The Blob: Players must sit on the edge of a giant inflatable raft. When the horn sounds, a giant weight will fall on the other side of the raft, causing the players to be launched into the air and into the water. They must then swim around a flag and touch a buoy to stop their time. The team with the fastest time wins, while the last-place team is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Cameron & Emily
  • Mazed and Confused: Teams are blindfolded, and must make their way through a maze whilst finding eight bags of puzzle pieces. Throughout the maze, raised signposts with Braille insignias help to point the players in the direction of the bags or the center of the maze. Once a team has all eight bags, they must race to the center of the maze where they can remove their blindfolds and work on solving the puzzle. The team to finish their puzzle first wins, while the last-place team is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Adam & Kandice
  • Glazed Over: Players walk on a beam, from a platform that is suspended above water, from one side to the other, and have to soak themselves in a bathtub filled with glaze. The players have to transfer the glaze to their partners only using their bodies. Once a player has soaked themselves with glaze, that player has to walk back on the beam to their partner and have their partner scrub off the glaze into a bucket. The other partner does the same, and the process repeats for ten minutes. The team with the most glaze in their bucket after ten minutes wins, while the team with the least amount of glaze in their bucket is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Brian & Karen
  • Pulling Strings: Players must work with their partner using ropes to successfully grab a ball that is 20 feet below them on the ground. They must then hoist the ball up to their platform where they will then shoot the ball into another team's basket. Once a team receives three balls in their basket, they are eliminated. The last team standing wins, while the first team to be eliminated from the challenge will be automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Ed & Jade
  • King of the Jungle: Teams must advance from one end of a platform to another that is suspended high above water. Each player has to swing on a series of vines that is hanging from the base of the platform. Each vine is of a different length. A team is disqualified if one or both players falls into the water. The team that advances to the end of the platform in the fastest time wins, while the team with the slowest team or who falls of the earliest is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Miles & Farrah1
  • Love Connection: Players must begin swinging on swings until they have enough momentum to reach their partner. Then, they must hang upside down and throw balls to each other and deposit them into their team basket. If a player falls off of their swing, their team is eliminated. Each team has 10 minutes to deposit up to 10 balls into their team basket. The team with the most balls in their basket wins, while the team with the least amount of balls is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Brian & Karen
  • Sunken Treasure: All of the girls were separated from their male partners, and secretly asked a series of questions. Then, host Tyson Kidd asks the guys a series of trivia questions, and the goal for the guys is to match the answers of their female partners. A correct answer allows a guy to move forward and closer to retrieving their female partner out from their glass box under the water. If the answer is wrong, that guy stays put. Once a guy reaches the seventh step, they must dive off of the platform and swim to their partner's glass box underwater. Once his female partner is out of her glass box, they will swim to shore to ring a bell. The first team to ring the bell wins, while the last-place team is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: David & Aaryn
  • Swept Off Your Feet: Pairs must face off against another pair and push a giant padded bar. The pair who pushes their bar far enough to knock their opponents off the platform and into the water wins the round and advances to the next round. This process continues until one pair remains, who will be declared the winners. The losing teams from the first round will then compete in a loser's bracket where the team that finishes in last is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Buzz & Savannah
  • Tummy Tower: Teams must scale a series of steps to checkpoints where they must eat a portion of a Malaysian delicacy. Once they complete a checkpoint, they must continue on the steps to the next checkpoint. The teams will continue through five checkpoints to the top of the tower. At the top, the teams must add up all of the steps that they climbed and write the total number of steps they climbed. If a team incorrectly labels the amount of steps, they must return to the bottom and count again. The team that correctly labels the number of steps in the fastest time wins, while the last team to do so is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Chris & Lindi
  • The Final Countdown: Separated into male and female heats, players must stand on a giant 3x3 grid above the water. The gender on the platform will be blindfolded, while their partner will be above them telling them where to move. When the horn sounds, the players must work with their partners to find opponents on the grid and knock them off of the platform. While the challenge is going on, the 9 squares on the grid begin counting down from 9 to 0. Once a square hits 0, it will open up, dropping any player on that square into the water. The last player standing in each heat wins for their team, while the first person off lands their pair in the loser's round. If the winners or losers in each round are different, then they will compete in a head-to-head match with a coin flip determining the gender. The winning pair of the winner's round wins, while the losing pair of the loser's round is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Ed & Jade
  • Lean Wit It: Teams must hold onto a rope while leaning backwards on an inclined platform. Teammates are on opposite sides of the platform and must work together to balance each other while leaning. At 10 minute intervals, the teams must move down a notch on the rope, making the incline stepper and making it harder to balance with their teammate. When a team falls off of the platform, they are eliminated. The last team standing wins, while the first team eliminated is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Buzz & Savannah
  • Fatal Attraction: Teams must transfer blocks from one side of a field to another, while battling against a giant magnet which is attracting them and the blocks. Teams can only carry 2 blocks at a time, and if a block gets stuck to the magnet, they will incur a 15 second penalty. After teams have built a pyramid out of all 120 blocks, the magnet will be reversed, and repel them down the hill to retrieve a flag. They must then race against the repulsion and place the flag on the stand to stop their time. The team with the fastest time not only wins, but is also guaranteed a spot in the final challenge, while the team with the slowest time is automatically sent to The Dome.
    • Winners: Buzz & Savannah

Dome games[edit | edit source]

  • Windmill: Players must lean on a platform, across from their partner, in the shape of an "X". When the challenge begins, the "X" will begin to spin making it more difficult to hold on. The "X" also goes underwater at certain points. The last player holding on wins the elimination for their pair.
    • Played Four Times: Carmine & Abby vs. Kevin & LeAnna, Chris & Lindi vs. Hunter & Alyssa, Chris & Lindi vs. Tom & Katie, Buzz & Savannah vs. Brendan & Grace
  • Cupid Shuffle: One player ran across the dome to a bin containing puzzle pieces. Meanwhile, their partner would be raised in the air next to their puzzle board. The first pair to complete their puzzle correctly wins.
    • Played Four Times: David & Aaryn vs. Jeremy & Caitlin, Cameron & Emily vs. Carmine & Abby, Buzz & Savannah vs. Miles & Farrah, Ed & Jade vs. Chris & Lindi
  • X-Battle: Players battle one-on-one against each other, trying to wrestle an "X" from their opponent's hands. Played in same-gendered heats, the first team to two points wins. In the event of a tie, a coin-flip will determine the gender that would go against each other in one sudden death round.
    • Played Three Times: Miles & Farrah vs. Frankie & Karissa, Buzz & Savannah vs. Cameron & Emily, Brian & Karen vs. Mike & Holly
  • Rope-A-Dope: Players are attached to each other as well as a rope that is tangled around several obstacles. Players must jump and climb through the ropes to untangle it and make their way to the end. The first team to reach the end of the ropes and ring the bell wins.
    • Played Three Times: David & Aaryn vs. Jared & Asiah, Brendan & Grace vs. Adam & Kandice, Brendan & Grace vs. Ryan & Jen
  • Hall Pass: Players battle one-on-one against each other, where they must run through a narrow hallway past another contestant to ring a bell. Played in same-gendered heats, the first team to two points wins. In the event of a tie, a coin-flip will determine the gender that would go against each other in one sudden death round.
    • Played One Time: Brian & Karen vs. David & Aaryn

Final challenge[edit | edit source]

  • Final Challenge: The final challenge begins with all six players racing a mile down up a mountain. Then, the players must complete their first checkpoint, “Through the Ringer”, in which each team must use a grappling hook to retrieve four rings. Then, they must use the rings to scale across a series of monkey bars to the other side. Before continuing to the next checkpoint, teams must put on handcuffs that must be worn for the remainder of the final challenge. At the second checkpoint, “Pyramid”, the players must use a series of 10 disks and transfer them from one pole to the finish pole without placing a disk on a smaller disk. Then, teams continue up the mountain to the third checkpoint "Free Fall", where teams must climb up a rattan ladder to a platform where they must work together to balance across a beam to the other side. In their next checkpoint, "Eliminator", players must compete in four mini games representative of the four elimination games throughout the series (Windmill, Cupid Shuffle, X-Battle, and Rope-A-Dope). The fifth checkpoint is "X-Treme Quarters", in which each player must bounce a coin off of a trampoline and attempt to land it in one of their three cups. If a player misses a shot, they must drink an "Egg-celent Smoothie" before making another attempt. Following this checkpoint, teams were removed from their handcuffs. At the sixth and final checkpoint, "Code Crackers", one player enter the vault, where they must answer four questions relating to their opinion of other teams this season. Their answers determined a four-digit code which locked a safe containing their final key. The other team member then had to guess his or her teammate's answers, entering the same code to unlock the safe. If they guessed correctly, the safe would open and the team must grab their final key and take it to the finish line where they will unlock a chest. The first team to cross the finish will win $150,000.
  • The Challenge: World Tour Winners: Brian & Karen (win $150,000)

  • ^1 : In the "King of the Jungle" challenge, Ryan & Jen reached the finish platform in the fastest time. However, they were disqualified due to Jen failing to grab the last rope with both hands, after Tyson Kidd stated in the rules that each player was required to grab all twelve ropes with both hands. Therefore, the team with the next fastest time — Miles & Farrah — were declared the winners.
  • ^2 : In the "Swept Off Your Feet" challenge, the pairs were put into two super teams, each with four teams. The pairs squared off against a pair from the other team. The pair that won the challenge became the Power Couple, and saved all of their team members from The Dome.
