Pre-Season Romantic Backgrounds[edit | edit source]

  • Brian & Jade: The two originally met on World Tour, however rarely interacted. On The Temple III, Jade and her allies targeted Brian for elimination and sent him home early on. Following his win on Shipwrecked, Brian hooked up with Jade. The two did not have a lasting relationship, however, they worked together on Battle of the Exes, both making it to the final, with Jade placing third and Brian going on to win with his partner Karen Riley.
  • Dean & Kacey: The two met on The Dunes, both aligning themselves with Sarah Lucas' alliance. At the reunion, Dean revealed that he and Kacey were still going strong and were working on moving closer together. However, the two could not agree to move closer together and eventually their long distance relationship became too much for them to handle and they called it quits.
  • Drew & Bianca: On Fresh Meat II, the two were paired together as partners. Early on, sparks began to fly between the two of them and they started a dalliance. They made it all the way to the final exile, before being eliminated by their allies Rebecca Malone and Lewis Song. At the reunion, the two seemed very close and still together. However, it was short lived after Bianca cheated on Drew with an old boyfriend and Drew ended things.
  • Eddie & Tamra: The two were challenge sweethearts on Battle of the Seasons II, being the driving force behind the dominating alliance of the season. Both of them ended up making it to the final were Eddie placed third while Tamra and her team won. During the reunion, they said they were still together, but Eddie later revealed that he called things off between them because he was not ready for a serious relationship, following several bad breakups.
  • Gustavo & Lacey: On The Real World: Dallas, the two hit it off instantly and were not shy about hiding their romantic relationship. In one episode, the two hooked up on another roommate's bed, sparking an argument. Things quickly turned sour in the real world after they both could not give up their partying lifestyles to be with each other. Gustavo said that they were not compatible romantically, and they only ever had a sexual relationship.
  • Ian & Amanda: During their original season, Fresh Meat II, the two were in the same alliance and developed a friendship. During Rivals, Amanda had her eye on Caleb Jenkins, while Ian was interested in Aaryn Grimes. They were both shot down and they eventually hooked up with each other. During the reunion, their hook ups were explored and they both stated that they just needed companionship in the house and nothing more materialized.
  • Jeremy & Kandice: The two became smitten with one another on Battle of the Exes. However, Jeremy and his partner Caitlin Oswald were sent home fairly early. Outside the challenge, Kandice said that Jeremy was egotistical and a hot head and she could not tolerate his behavior anymore and called things off. Her statements were confirmed during both The Dunes and Rivals, when Jeremy was sent home for getting into physical altercations.
  • Joe & Farrah: Although not seen during Rivals, Joe and Farrah were rumored to have hooked up. The two were spotted leaving the men's bathroom at a club together, which was shown during the reunion. Joe said that a sexual encounter did occur, which Farrah later confirmed by saying that her lips are made for "more than just talking".
  • Justin & Alison: The two had an off and on relationship on The Real World: Jacksonville. They hooked up early on and continued to do so for the rest of the season. However, they often fought because Justin did not take things seriously and Alison felt he was playing with her emotions. At the reunion, the two revealed that their relationship had ended and Alison stated that Justin was so arrogant and unbearable, while Justin said that Alison is a pathological liar and he hopes she stays lonely forever.
  • Luke & Cece: The two were casual partners on The Real World: Columbus, which later grew into more. Cece felt Luke was the cutest guy in the house and she felt that he was a genuine guy. However, when Luke was talking with his other male roommates, he said that he was only with Cece for sex, and he did not actually like her. Following their time in the house, Cece came to realize Luke's true intentions and severed ties with him.
  • Mike & Erika: On Rivals, the two started flirting and later turned their showmance into an alliance between their teams. Outside the house, the two felt they were not as compatible as they once felt and they ended things. Mike stated that they were really only together because they needed company, while Erika said that she was hurt by a lot of things that Mike had said about her online, that were false.
  • Nate & Jen: The two developed a short-lived romance on Rivals after Nate and his partner Patrick Butler were sent home very early. Jen revealed at the reunion that they were still together and planned to move in together. However, Nate later cheated on Jen which quickly ended things. Nate stated that Jen went crazy and tore up his clothes, threw them out of windows, and burned them.
  • Patrick & Chantal: Early on Battle of the Seasons II, the two hooked up after a drunken night at the bar. This later led to a power alliance between their teams, Dallas and Jacksonville. At the reunion, however, the two revealed they never developed a relationship outside of the game. Chantal stated that Patrick was a cocky, egotistical, and heartless person with an inferiority complex, and Patrick stated that Chantal was jealous of the attention that he got from other girls.
  • Phil & Tara: On The Real World: Columbus, the two were "America's sweethearts" as they often provided heartwarming and sentimental relief on the show. At the reunion, the two announced they were still together and had moved in together. However, the two stated they had "marital problems" with things like finances, household things, and commitment issues, which ultimately was the demise of their relationship.
  • Steve & Ally: The two were partners on Fresh Meat II and developed a flirtatious relationship. They were sent home after the second exile after losing to Ed Slater and Julie Owens. Outside of the game, Ally did not trust Steve and believed he was cheating because he rarely spent time with her, while Steve said Ally was to clingy and obsessive and that if she could not trust him, that he was not going to continue to prove himself and they parted ways.
  • Wade & Zoe: The two hooked up during Battle of the Seasons II, and were dubbed the "rookie couple". They were later pitted against each other as their teams were in opposing alliance. Zoe later stated that Wade was toying with her emotions and played her, while Wade said that he was never interested in a serious relationship and just wanted to "fool around", but Zoe never took the hints.

  • Separation Anxiety: Players are standing on balance beams suspended above the water facing their partner and connected by a rope. Teams must work together to advance themselves along the balance beam. Along the way, their are several jolts in the balance beam which stretches the rope, making it harder to keep balanced. The team that gets to the finish platform in the fastest time wins, while the team with the slowest time or the team that falls off earliest is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Winners: Brian & Jade
  • Rock and a Hard Place: This challenge consists of a series of four tasks, each pertaining to moving or utilizing giant rocks.
    • Transport: Each team has to race to transport ten giant rocks along a field by using two bamboo poles. The five last-place teams (out of fifteen) are eliminated from the challenge, while the last-place team at the first stage is automatically sent to the Dome.
    • Traverse: Teams must race to scale a giant rock wall, and fill in the missing holes with the rocks that they just collected. The rocks can only fit in one of the holes, and must be placed properly before moving on. The first six teams to scale the wall advance.
    • Toss: Each team member must toss rocks and land them on platforms. Each platform is a certain size, and the rock size corresponds to the size of the platform. The first three teams to land a rock on each of the four platforms advance.

The players have to transfer the glue to their partners only using their bodies. Once a player has soaked themselves with glue, that player has to walk back on the beam to their partner and have their partner scrub off the glue into a bucket. The other partner does the same, and the process repeats for ten minutes. The team with the most glue in their bucket after ten minutes wins, while the team with the least amount of glue in their bucket is automatically sent to The Dome.
